Best way to hit your iron: Long vs Short 

In this section, I will discuss how to hit the long irons and the short irons.

The long irons are the 2-3-4 irons. These golf irons have a lower loft and give you more distance.

The short irons are the 8-9 irons. These golf irons have a higher loft that gives a higher ball flight.


When you are using longer irons, the golf ball position should be slightly forward to the center. It will help you to minimize the steepness in the ball flight.  

When hitting the longer irons, you have to keep the head down and swing through the ball. If you are hitting the golf ball too early, you will lose distance. 

When using a short iron, make sure that the ball position should be centered in your stance and your foot are parallel to the target line. It will help you to get a nice straight trajectory.

Your weight should be on the back foot, and you should be able to feel your feet hitting the ground. And You should be able to feel your weight transferring from your back foot to the lead foot.

Stay Level When You DownSwing

As you practice hitting irons by staying in level, you will notice that you will start to make a solid downswing.

You will notice that you will hit the golf ball with a controlled and solid hit.


Shape a shot

Shaping an iron is the ability to move the iron shot where you want to, such as a fade or a draw.

Therefore, you need to shape the iron shot to land where you want it to. If you are having trouble shaping your iron shots, it is important to practice.

You can practice shaping shots by taking the shots from the practice range. It is a good way to see if you shape the shots correctly. If you have trouble shaping the iron shots, you should consider working with a coach. A coach can help you with your form and can help you to improve your game.

Take a Divot

When you hit the iron shot, your iron should hit the golf ball first, then the ground. It will take out a small divot with the forward side of the ball. It is a clear indicator that you correctly hit the golf ball.

When you hit the divot in the front of the ball, It is a clear indication that you are compressing the ball and getting a solid hit.
